UNCLE: SAN ONOFRE BEACH ADVENTURE GUIDE
UNCLE is our partner guide to the outdoors, here’s their latest California Adventure guide:
GET OUT OF TOWN! DRIVE DOWN TO OLD MAN’S SURF BREAK AT SAN ONOFRE BEACH
Directions: Drive to the State Park entrance & pay station at San Onofre State Beach Access.
Total adventure time: Half day or full day. (We prefer to arrive at sunrise (depart LA 1-hour before sunrise) and then catch an early surf before taking it easy on the beach for the day)
When to go: All year just check the weather in case of windy or rain in winter.
Kit List
Surf wear:
- Surfboard
- Car roof rack & tie down
- Wax
- Ankle cord
Beach Wear:
- Swimsuit
- Towel
- Frisbee
- Fleece (in case of a chilly morning)
Other (there are no shops down there):
- Water (1 ltr each minimum)
- Picnic food
- A good book
- California Naturals 2-1: Shampoo + Conditioner
- California Naturals Body Wash
- Sunscreen
The Break:
Old Man’s is a classic and historic Californian surf break with crumbling longboard waves rolling in all day long.
Post-Beach Hunger:
Head to San Clemente - A radical beach town located 3 miles North of San Onofre with a bevy of great restaurants, cafes, and bars for ideal for any time of day.
